Legacy & Lineage
This past weekend, we picked one of hottest days of the season to bike from Simcoe to Port Dover along the Lynn Valley Trail. The heat didn’t deter us—it felt like a pilgrimage of sorts. This trail holds deep meaning for me. My grandfather, Bill Burt, played a role in establishing and maintaining it. Every time I run or ride it, I feel a quiet reverence for the legacy he left behind.
My grandfather was a pillar in his community. He poured his heart into building connections, championing education, and showing up for his family. His values have shaped me in ways I’m still discovering. As I develop yoga teacher trainings and create space for continued learning, I see so clearly how his vision flows through me. Like him, I believe in the power of gathering, in lifelong curiosity, and in the quiet but profound impact of community care.
Crossing over the bridge on the trail—one named after him—was an emotional moment. A reminder that what we pour our energy into today can ripple far beyond our lifetimes.
So I ask you:
Where are you placing your energy? What kind of legacy are you weaving through your work, your relationships, your community?
Let’s keep tending to the roots while planting new seeds.
